2022 totals and covid

Now is probably a good time to look back at my training in the last year… it was a good mix of swimming, walking, running and strength training, although I feel a bit like I’ve tapered off towards the end of the year, I maybe needed it.

Here are my totals for the year:

More walking than running for the first year, about 460km or 290 miles walking… vs about 430km or 270 miles running.

I consciously took the focus off running earlier in the year, putting more of a focus on swimming, and did a lot more of swimming up to about August September time.

I’ll maybe need to round this up, but at the moment I’m at 257.5km swimming or about 160 miles swimming. 260km sounds better eh?

I moved my Garmin over to km and I’m still getting used to it with running and walking, but it aligns with me swim distance… and makes me thinks I’ve run / walked further too… 10km seems more than 6.2 miles. Lol.

Towards September October time I was feeling that I couldn’t face the pool, after over a year of loving it, so I figured it would be a good time to get in the gym and walk or run some more. The garagym is on my doorstep and although it’s a bit cold in winter, the heaters and gloves make it ok.

A mixture of apple fitness workouts and my own strength workouts have been good one to three times a week.

I randomly did a round 100km of cycling; a mixture of on my bike outside and on the spin bike, but it’s been my lowest activity, as I’ve just done it when I randomly fancy it.

It’s a lot less than previous years, but the switch to swimming will have reduced my running distance, and I’ve enjoyed the strength work I’ve done in the tail end of the year.

Saying all of that I did have a lot of fun swimming with others. At events and mostly Nina and Judith and our adventures throughout different months. I hope we continue this in 2023.

I work best when I plan my training, and have set days when I plan and do things, and I’ve tried in the last few months to do this, but dark morning and whatever else has put me off a bit. I’ll get back into it soon I’m sure.

Maybe two of each – swim / run / strength, or more strength, would be a good plan for 2023.

M – strength or run
T – swim bella
W – run or strength
T – run
F – swim bella or strength
S – rest / walk / run
S – swim TX or strength

Right now, I’ve been struck down with what I thought was a bad cold. Starting on Tuesday last week it felt like the usual snotters and head cold I used to get, then on Thursday I took a covid test just incase and it turns out it’s covid. Booooooo.

I’m feeling pretty rough, but have plenty of supplies and cold and glue remedies to help me to recover. Fit Girl has it too, so we’re looking after each other locked up together.

And we’re set for Christmas too, so all good really. The weather isn’t very nice anyway, so some forced rest will likely be good.

I’ll have a think how I want my training to be in the new year and into 2023, likely something like the above… but we will see.
