Incase you didn’t know already… Running and numbers are my thing. Looking back at my mileage for the previous 10 years I’ve usually done 1,000 miles or more each year … and I was thinking I could just settle for 950 miles this year… that would be the sensible thing to do…
But then I was thinking… could I make it to 1,000 in 2019? By the end of November I was at about 866 miles… so it would be a nice easy 84 to get to 950… or 134 to get to 1,000.
The most I’ve run in a month this year was 115 miles in August… and on Sunday 1st December I ran nearly 12 miles with Grant, then another 6 miles or so the next day. By day 2 I’d already bagged 18 miles.
So I decided to give the 1,000 mile target for 2019 a go after all. It would mean a lot of running, around 4 runs a week, of about 30-35 miles a week, but I think I can do that.
In December I’m at about 41 miles so far, and I’ve run 5 out of 7 days so far, having Tuesday and Wednesday off.
I’ll be careful to have at least 2 days rest a week, sometimes 3, but do a couple of long runs a week to get the miles in. 5-6 miles will be my minimum distance I think
This little chart here on Garmin should keep me on track… with my annual mileage at just over 906 miles today, I have 23 days of just over 3 weeks left to do about 94 miles…
I’ll rest on Sunday and Monday this week, and aim for Tuesday, Thursday, Friday running and Sunday. My body is feeling ok with the increased mileage and I’m sleeping better (tired out). My right foot is a little sore but hopefully nothing that some rest shouldn’t be able to help.
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it to 1,000 miles for 2019, but knowing me and my goals I should get there unless my foot falls off / gets worse. That’s where rest and recovery will come in. And a new pair of trainers too, I’m retiring these ones as they’ve seen better days.
What do you think? Do you think I’ll make it to 1,000? Or is 94 miles in 3+ weeks too much? (I’ve been running at about 18-20 ish miles a week all year).
