2000m swim sets

I’ve been enjoying my swimming recently. There was a time when I’d get all bunged up and my nose (and head) would feel hellish after a good swim, but I’ve managed to figure out a work around and have been regularly been swimming 2000m / 80 length 1-2 times a week.

It’s fitting in nicely with everything else and acting as a good cross training to running just now.

Here’s the simple and easy to remember swim session I’ve been doing, where 250m is 10 lengths:

Session 1: 2000m / 80 lengths
Warm up:
250m FC Full Stroke
250m FC Arms Only
Main Set:
750m FC Full Stroke
Speed Set:
5 x 50m FC fast / sprints incl rest
Cool down:
250m FC Full Stroke
250m FC various cool down

The session takes me just under 40 minutes which is enough time for me to get changed and home before breakfast and ready for work.

Today I timed my 50m sprints and they all came in at 49 seconds each (with 10 secs rest).

So I’ve decided I’m going to increase my sprints to be 5 x 100m as follows:

Session 2: 2000m / 80 lengths
Warm up:
250m FC Full Stroke
250m FC Arms Only
Speed Set:
5 x 100m FC fast / sprints incl 10s rest

Main Set:
750m FC Full Stroke
Cool down:
250m FC various cool down

I’ll aim to swim around twice a week, Monday and Wednesdays before work.
