Today was funny. Funny ha ha. 😀
I taught swimming first thing for two hours then went to the park for a picnic. It was a scorcher of a day. I could really get used to this. 🙂 Anyway, when I was teaching, Penguins, I asked them to do handstands as a fun last activity.
It’s easy in the water, the water holds you up. But I could never do them on dry land. In asking the kids to do a handstand, I showed them a sort of attempt at one.
The life guard got a bit of a fright and thought I was going to do a full handstand. I said I’d probably fall and break my neck if I tried it. So he offered to help me and catch me. Luckily I declined. Lol. It was swimming lessons after all, not gymnastics. 😉
In the park, I played a bit of frisbee with a bent frisbee (not very successfully because it was bent lol). It was a really nice day, sunny and warm (25’C) with a nice breeze. Nice wee picnic and chat. 🙂
Then I decided that I would try and do handstands. I was never good at gymnastics when I was younger. I think I tried it once and gave up.
But I know from teaching swimming that if you want to learn how to do something you need to practice, practice, practice. You’ll probably be bad at the start and fail quite a few times, but if you stuck at it and practice lots you might become good at it.
That’s the idea anyway. 😉
I tried once, then twice. And I clattered to the ground comedy style … With a car passing, the driver laughing out loud at me. Funny, it was.
Then I tried again…
And again… I was laughing too much…
And quite a few more times, maybe 20 or so… I took my flip flop off, and tried to get my legs together…
And… Hey presto!
I did it!!
And again!
And a few more times… nearly…
Then I was getting tired and couldn’t get it right again. I must have been doing it for about half an hour or so. 😉
How do you learn to do handstands?
It might have been good if I’d have learned to do it as a kid, but now that I’m just a big kid ;-), all it should take is practice, practice, practice!
And here’s a few YouTube videos which might help:
How good are the two little girls by the way?!! :-O
Perhaps if I try hard and practice I’ll get as good as them?? Pffft! 😉
Practice, practice, practice!! mmmmmm.
