If you don’t ask you don’t get…

When I’m in Chicago the Chicago Half Marathon is on… (Sunday 11th September).

I looked into it and it’s about $100 to enter (about £60).  Whilst I would love to run an event in another country, I don’t think I really want to spend £60 on it, especially when I’m on holiday.  It also starts at 7am… which would mean a hell of an early start!

I’d resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn’t do it, but I would go to the Expo on Navy Pier the weekend of the race, and see how they (the Americans) do races and events.

Then I thought of this… sending an email to the event organisers 2 weeks before the event:

Hi
I’m visiting Chicago for a once in a life time vacation on September the 5th for 2 weeks from Glasgow, Scotland.

I don’t suppose you would have any complimentary spaces available for someone like me?

I am running the Great Scottish Run on Sunday the 4th of September and have already competed in a 10k,  half marathon, the Lochaber Marathon in 3:40 and many many training miles this year already.  On Sunday the 4th for the Great Scottish Run, I’m going to run the 10k at 9:30, then the half marathon at 11am!

It would be great if you could let me run the Chicago half marathon (for free??!) on the 11th of September when I’m over visiting?  I’ll be staying at the Hilton in the centre of Chicago.

You can see more about me and my training here:  https://lornpearsontrains.wordpress.com/

Looking forward to visiting and seeing your great city and country!!  😀

Thanks

Lorn Pearson

Well…. if you don’t ask, you don’t get.  🙂  If I’m honest I don’t think I will get, so it’ll be good to lie in on Sunday the 11th of September in our lovely hotel instead!
