Wk11 – 4.3M Maxwell Park run

Wednesday morning.  I took a rest day on Monday and didn’t do an early morning easy run on Tuesday morning so I decided I would definately do it on Wednesday morning.

My usual 4.3 mile route up to Maxwell Park and back.  I got up at around 6:30 and noticed the thick fog outside.  Perfect I thought.  🙂

I’d been bothered with a sore throat through the night – the type which started off a short cold the las time I had one.  As a result I woke at about 4:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep.

So I was keen to get out and see if a run might help.  I know they say when you’re run down / have a cold to stay off exercise, but as long as I took it easy I figured it would be fine.

I’ve been taking paracetamol and decongestant to try and stave off the onset of anything nasty.  And I’ve also realised that I’m not drinking as much water at work… so I’m going to try and reinstate that good little habit.

The run was pleasant, if a little chilly.  0’C, foggy.  It was at an easy comfortable pace, but I still managed an average 8:07 min miles.  Not bad.

I saw ‘Old dog’ a few miles in.  I’ve passed him and his owner on two mornings now at the same bit on the route.

Old dog is an old golden lab who gets taken out by his owner along with another younger dog.  The younger dog is on a lead and was excited when I ran past.  Old dog just walks along about 20 metres behind its owner, dragging his heels and drinking from puddles.

Run: 4.3M, 34:58, Pace: 8:07, 7.4mph, Calories: 431.
Ave HR: 157 (83%), Max HR: 167 (88%)

I’ll run tonight and see how I get on, then reconsider any plans for exercise on Thursday.  I’ve a long run planned for Friday so I want to be ok for that.

My ‘illness’ shall we call it?, is ‘above the neck’ so I’m hoping running will be good for it (as long as I take it easy!!)
