The underlying fact of why low carb diets work is not so much that you reduce your carbs, but mainly because you replace the carbs you would normally eat, with Protein.
- Protien makes you full.
- Increasing the amount of protein in your diet helps control your appetite and makes people eat less than they normally would.
- Eating certain foods which are protien or fat rich as opposed to carb rich supresses your appetite.
- People who consuome a diet of protien and fat as oppsed to carbohydrates stay fuller for longer and don’t eat as much.
Here’s a bit more about a more recent book by Gary Taubes: Why We Get Fat, it’s about why low fat diets / high carb diets don’t work to aid weight loss, but high protien / high fat diets do work.
Carbs are ok if you exercise a lot, but if you want to lose weight and don’t want to use exercise to do it, low carb / high protien can be a good way to go.
